Staying Safe with Your Smartphone

Have you ever thought about the effect your smartphone might be having on your vision? We can't deny that these devices are wonderful, because they let us stay connected no matter where we are. However because handheld devices are made with small screens, a lot of users usually hold their iPads and iPhones a lot closer than they hold printed materials. This creates a whole lot of visual demands that require your eyes to work in a way that's quite a change from its normal activity.

It's a challenge for your eyes to focus on small images and text. This might cause problems, particularly for those that use vision correction such as glasses or contact lenses. Specialists say that when glasses-wearing individuals spend significant amounts of time with their phone at a closer than normal distance, the eyes have an even harder time correcting for distance. When your eyes work too hard, it usually leaves you with unpleasant headaches as a result of the eyestrain.

But that's not all. Holding your device too close can make you blink less, which can dry your eyes and blurry vision.

In order to prevent these symptoms caused by our phones, it's best to set your phone to display all text in a larger font, and keep the screen further away from your face. Also, don't use your phone for too much time at once! If it's been a while, let your eyes have a break. So be smart about how you use your smart phone and look after your eyes to ensure that your vision is protected.
